Winter Operations - February 2001

Photos taken in February 2001 at Bad Ditzenbach airport (EDPB).

D-EHIE close to her hangar at EDPB during the best winter weekend we had this year - about 20 cm of snow on the ground and clear sunny skies with about -6 deg. C OAT. The wheelpants were taken off for some flying around the patch.

D-EHIE at the same position, but now viewed from the rear. In the background you can 'imagine' the runway which runs parallel to the forest about 30 m in front of the little barn with the windsock.

Accessory section of the Continental O-200A engine installation on D-EHIE, left hand side view. Note the retrofitted spin-on oil filter (for Champion CH 48108) mounted parallel to the cylinder axis via a simple straight adapter casting.
Right hand side view of the accessory section. Note slightly deformed (plastic) and blackened battery box. This was caused by the heat from exhaust gases, which escaped through a missing section of the exhaust flange gasket. Similar gasket failures in two of the remaining three exhaust ports damaged the rubber connectors between the intake tubes and the cylinder bow as well as distributing light brown to oily black stuff over all the intake and pushrod tubes.

Instrument panel and front seats of D-EHIE. All seat and interior upholstery is original apart for the front seat cushions which are upholstered in a slightly different material of a more brownish color. Front and rear seats. The decorative aluminum S-shape from the right sidewall pocket to the dashboard is currently missing. Rear seats and 'hatrack'. Rear seats are limited to 110 kg in all square-tail Jodel DR.100 series models.
